Trump vs Biden US Presidential debate 2024: Who is winning the White House race?

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump begin their first debate of the 2024 election year.

White House reporters are banned from the door

The White House Correspondents Association said CNN denied a request to allow White House reporters into the studio during the first presidential debate between incumbent President Joe Biden and Republican opponent Donald Trump.

According to CNN, microphones will be muted throughout the debate, except when it is the candidate’s turn to speak.

The moderator will use all the tools at his disposal to control time and ensure civilized discussion. CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash moderated the debate in a studio without an audience.

Content of debate

Mr. Biden’s campaign team is expected to talk about the issue of abortion. Mr. Trump’s side will talk about immigration. However, CNN moderators will decide the questions.

Topics may include: how candidates address the challenges of persistently rising commodity prices, migrants at the US-Mexico border, the Israel-Hamas and Russia-Ukraine conflicts.

Trump’s role in the 2021 Capitol riots, his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and his conviction in the hush-money case, as well as the troubles facing President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, face may appear in the debate.

Neither Mr. Trump nor Mr. Biden made groundbreaking statements. No one is offering new ideas on how to resolve conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

“The foreign policy debate is quite sketchy. Mr. Biden cannot present his point of view, and Mr. Trump is still the same, constantly exaggerating the issue,” another European diplomat said above. Poltiico newspaper.

European diplomats noted that Mr. Trump appeared to dominate, spoke more clearly and showed more strength than Mr. Biden. “Honestly, Mr. Trump looks more like someone we can cooperate with,” an African diplomat told an American newspaper.

Regarding resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Mr. Trump pledged to quickly resolve the conflict, but did not specify how. “I don’t understand what Mr. Trump is going to do,” said a European government official.

But what caught attention after the debate was Mr. Biden’s fatigue and age burden. “It’s clear that Mr. Biden is old. This affects him,” the European official said.

‘We need to defeat this guy,’ Biden said at the post-debate

According to the survey, 67% of voters registered to watch the debate said Mr. Trump had a better performance than his opponent, while this number for Mr. Biden was 33%.

57% of people watching the debate said they did not really trust Mr. Biden’s ability to lead the country, and this number for Mr. Trump was 44%.

About 81% of voters participating in the survey said the debate did not affect their choice of who to elect as president for the next term. 14% said the debate made them reconsider but have not changed their mind, while 5% said the debate made them change their mind about who to vote for.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. commented that the performance of Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump in the debate will “make many Americans discouraged” about the candidates of the major parties before the election in November.

Mr. Kennedy suggested that voters watching the debate might seriously consider electing him in this year’s White House race.

On X, the interested community also had mixed posts and comments after the debate ended. In general, the majority still supported Mr. Trump and thought that Mr. Biden did not do well.
