Republicans have coined a new moniker for Minnesota’s governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz: “Tampon Tim.”

The language used and the opposition, coupled with prohibitions and limitations on restroom access, participation in sports, and gender-affirming healthcare, constitute a strategy aimed at limiting the ways in which transgender youth and adults interact with their communities and navigate public environments.

The Harris-Walz ticket’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights sharply contrasts with the views held by former President Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance. As a newly elected senator from Ohio, Vance has proposed legislation aimed at “protecting children’s innocence by prohibiting gender-affirming care for minors,” positioning himself as more conservative than Trump. Recently, Trump remarked on Fox & Friends that Walz is “very heavy into transgender” issues and that he supports “anything transgender.”
