Mr. Trump said he would not participate in the second debate with Ms. Harris, contrary to the Democratic candidate’s wishes.

“Kamala should focus on what should be done over the past nearly 4 years. There will be no third debate,” former president Donald Trump said in a post on the social network Truth Social on September 12. He participated in two live debates, first with US President Joe Biden at the end of June and then with Vice President Harris on September 10.

“When a boxer loses, the first thing he says is ‘I want to fight again’. Polls clearly show I won the debate with Kamala Harris, the radical leftist candidate of the Democratic Party, and she immediately called for another debate,” he said.

Ms. Harris’s campaign called for an additional debate with Mr. Trump immediately after the end of the event on the evening of September 10. During the election campaign in the battleground state of North Carolina on the same day, the US Vice President reiterated this call.

“I believe we owe the voters another debate. Because of how important this election is and what’s at stake,” she told supporters in Charlotte.

Ms. Harris’s campaign does not believe Mr. Trump’s statement is true. “He changes his position every day. I predict there will be another debate,” said an adviser to Ms. Harris.

Every major poll about the Trump-Harris debate showed the Democratic candidate prevailing in a face-off watched by more than 67 million people. Many voters polled thought that Ms. Harris was superior to Mr. Trump in repartee.

However, former independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who announced his support for Trump after stopping the campaign, told Fox News that Mr. Trump won the debate in terms of “content”, while Ms. Harris won in terms of content. “presentation, refinement, organization and preparation”.

On September 12, Mr. Trump also attended a campaign event in Tucson, Arizona, announcing that he would focus “on the struggling economy and high housing costs.”
