In a half hour show, there is at least 8 minutes of commercial and in an hour show there is about 16 minutes of commercials. To me that is valuable time wasted to sit there and watch the commercials. I have gotten pretty good at knowing when the commercial is over. I suspect it’s because in general, most people can have a drink or two without issue whereas it’s far less common to have a cigarette once or twice a week. I’m a recovering alcoholic who has gone a few years now without alcohol, and for most other people, alcohol isn’t a problem. The FCC has regulations that are supposed to prevent that but I believe they only apply to the broadcasters. TV programs that you get via cable or streaming are not so limited and they often increase the volume to get your attention while at the same time making you angry. Everything to do with commercials is absolutely necessary, as the purpose of the programming is to give you reason to pay attention to the commercials. The commercials pay the piper and hence call the tunes. Why do TV shows, especially sports, come back from a commercial, only to tell you what’s coming up after the commercial? Kind of unnecessary, isn’t it?
