The New York court postponed Mr. Trump’s sentencing after the verdict of immunity from prosecution

According to Politico, on July 2, Judge Juan Merchan of the New York court agreed to postpone Donald Trump’s sentencing hearing until September, instead of holding it on July 11 as scheduled. At the end of May, Mr. Trump was found guilty of 34 criminal charges related to the scandal of falsifying business records to spend money to hide his relationship with adult film star Stormy Daniels.

“The sentencing time is postponed until the morning of September 18, so that the parties have more time to add information to the dossier,” Judge Merchan said.

On July 1, the US Supreme Court issued a ruling concluding that Mr. Trump enjoys immunity from prosecution for the President’s official activities. Immediately after the verdict was announced, the former President’s legal team filed a petition with the New York court, requesting a postponement of the sentencing to have more time to overturn all 34 charges.

“The Supreme Court’s decision to grant immunity from prosecution proves Mr. Trump’s point. During arguments in May, the prosecution presented some evidence that could be considered ‘public activity’. ‘ case while Mr. Trump was still fully functional, leading to the jury’s uncomfortable conclusion,” Mr. Trump’s legal team said.

On the contrary, New York prosecutors said that the argument from Mr. Trump’s legal team was “unfounded”, but agreed to delay the sentencing so that the President could supplement the file later. .

According to the decision of the US Supreme Court, Mr. Trump is only exempted from accessing official activities, the following personal actions will not be exempted. Mr. Trump’s projects will be sent back to lower courts to evaluate the value of the President’s previous actions in official or non-official work.
